MATHS TEACHER TRAINING



Who?

The Principals Academy Trust is offering free weekly workshops at selected schools to assist Maths teachers in Grades 4 & 5 in 2015. These workshops will be facilitated by Annette Champion and Dorothy Raine who are experienced Maths teachers in the Intermediate and Senior Phase.

 

What?

  • The workshops will run for all four school terms and will cover all aspects of the Maths curriculum with particular focus on the Mental Maths programme.
  • Weekly worksheets will be provided as well as a weekly Mental Maths programme.
  • Assistance will be offered with preparation for the ANAs and other assessments.
  • There will also be opportunities for teachers to discuss challenges, share good ideas and make useful apparatus for their Maths lessons.
  • There will be a strong focus on making Maths fun by using games and other strategies which have proved to be very successful in similar schools in 2014.

 

Attendance

The workshops will be held every week except the 1st and last weeks of term 1, 2 and 3. To accommodate exams etc, workshops in the 4th term will only be held in the 1st 4 weeks.

It is expected that all teachers who join the programme will inform Annette/Dorothy, by sms/phone/email, well in advance, and no later than 13:00 on the day of the workshop if they are unable to attend or if they wish to withdraw from the programme altogether.

 

When/ Where?

The workshops will commence 26th January 2015 and be held at the following schools from 15:00 – 16:00 unless otherwise arranged:

Monday:           Grassy Park EC (Grassy Park)              and     Lantana Primary (Retreat)

Tuesday:          Masiphumelele (Khayelitsha)              and Regina Coeli Primary (Athlone)

Wednesday:     Siyazakha Primary (Philippi)              and   Mseki Primary (Gugulethu)
